Travel Tricks – Evening Outfits and Make-up Routine

There is no question that beach vacations are super fun and relaxing. Soaking up the warm sun all day. The natural sea salt water curls. The mid day Piña Colada. After spending most of the day in a soggy bikini and sticky from sunscreen, I like to dress up for dinner and night-time entertainment (and more Piña Coladas). Here are a few outfit of the night pictures from the week.

Now you are probably wondering about my beauty and hair routine. I didn’t pack any of my hot tools for the week, so my hair care was simple. My hair was just washed and air-dried, and I added a spritz of Living Proof Instant Texture Mist (Oh Sephora samples, how I Love you). This texture mist was great for adding extra wave and body. For beauty I tried to keep it to the basics, as gross but true, the evening humidity tended to sweat it off.

Travel Tricks- What’s in my Carry-on Bag

Recently, I was lucky enough to take a relaxing vacation to Cuba with my lovely boyfriend. Since a lot goes on during the travel process, I thought I would do a travel series to help any jet setting readers!

Today we tackle the most daunting yet exciting part of the vacation – the flight. I personally love flying, my boyfriend on the other hand..not so much! The rush of speed from taking off makes me want to reach my destination quicker. But once you’ve been in the air for a while, things can get tough. So I decided to share some of my in flight essentials!

IMG_1141  Long flights can be draining, so entertainment is key. I always bring my Ipad stocked with music and TV shows – I was late on the Sons of Anarchy bandwagon but now I’m hooked! I always pack at least two books for a vacation and John Green’s Paper Towns has been on my list for a while. Stay tuned for a book review coming soon!
IMG_1143I like to dress in layers when traveling, that way I’m prepared for anything. This sweater was featured in my summer clothing haul and kept me super cozy and warm. Most of my important travel documents are organized in a travel wallet, which I did not feature, but my passport and wallet are kept handy. Other necessities include sunglasses, gum, tissues, lip balm and hand sanitizer (let’s be real airports can be yucky). As for beauty, I tend to go bare face when traveling. The dry air stirs up trouble with my skin so its best to not clog pores with make-up.

Snack time – Healthy Pizza Pockets!

Pizza is everywhere these days, I can’t scroll through Instagram without seeing a cheesy slice. I love pizza as much as the next person, but I’m also trying to stay fit and eat healthy. This makes it tricky to stay away from all the deliciously yummy but not so healthy food. In my quest to find new dinner options, I came across a recipe from the blog The Weary Chef for a delicious and healthy pizza alternative. She called them Quinoa Meatball Pizza Cups.

IMG_8810

These little pockets were super fast and easy to make. I paired these with a salad and it was the perfect dinner. My oven got a bit hot and so they came out a bit toasty, but I will take them out sooner next time. I also used a mixture of cheddar and mozzarella cheese making the top look darker.

IMG_8813As for the taste – I loved them! The baked quinoa acted like a crust and tasted just like a pizza! As a personal preference, I would add a bit more sauce as well as some chilli flakes next time. I like my food with a spicy kick!

Even though my blog is predominately about beauty, my ultimate goal is for it to be a lifestyle blog. Majority of my posts will still be about makeup and beauty, however I am going to incorporate some other content to mix it up. Let me know what you think!

Be sure to try out this recipe and let me know some of your dinner favourites!

Summer Clothing Haul

Who else is shocked that it’s already June?  Don’t be confused, I’m certainly not complaining about the warm-ish weather! In fact, I’m eagerly pulling out summer clothing pieces! With the changing temperature comes the seasonal wardrobe cleanout. Nothing is more satisfying than digging through the closet to get rid of worn out and out of style pieces. Plus who doesn’t love when everything looks pretty and folded in its place. So you might be wondering, how long does the organized and clutter free oasis last? Not very long. I typically use this as my excuse to go shopping and replace everything! Here are a few of the pieces I purchased over the past couple weeks.

Shorts and Rompers: I’m so glad soft shorts are a trend. Super comfortable, super versatile, and super flirty.  I’m equally a fan of the romper! The cute patterns are always what sell me. Aside from the whole tricky bathroom situation (Ladies, you know what I’m talking about) they are the perfect summer staple. Both pieces are trendy and unique plus you can usually find relatively inexpensive pieces. The shorts are from Banana Republic and the Romper and Denim shorts are both American Eagle.

Tops: I feel like crop tops look cute on everyone else but me. Because of its structured and not too fitted shape, this blush pink one from Aritzia doesn’t leave me feeling self-conscious. I love the shape and dressy yet causal feel of it. I tend to get chilly during summer evenings so I like to have a go to sweater to throw on. This one from Banana Republic is chic and cozy. Who doesn’t love shirt with a sassy saying.

Dresses and Skirts:  One of my favourite things to buy, my closet can speak for itself when it comes to dresses. I kept things simple with a stripe tank top dress from Joe Fresh. It’s definitely a “throw on and out the door” dress but could also be used as a beach cover-up. As for the Artizia skirt , I actually have it in the dress version.  I loved it so much I had to stock up and get the skirt. Again super versatile, very a classic look and is figure flattering.

Weekend Update: Happy Spring and Easter Weekend

Happy Spring Friends!

It is officially spring, although it is still quite chilly where I am (Thanks, never-ending Canadian winters!) After a brutal winter, I’m craving bright colours, light and flowy spring outfits and a whole lot of sunshine. This past weekend was Easter and I thought I would share some of the fun events and the seasonal inspiration I used for this festive spring weekend.

My favourite place for a quick burst of colour is the nails. This weekend I opted for Essie’s Sittin’ Pretty. I have worn this shade numerous times since I featured it in my L’Oreal Haul a few weeks back. The light purple shade is bright, perfect for spring and gets tons of compliments.

The beauty lover’s equivalent to spring cleaning? A spring haircut! I have always felt comfortable and confident with long, layered hair. I decided a healthy cut was needed as my dry and winter damaged hair was weighing me down. I took the not so deep plunge and opted for the long bob and popped in a few mocha brown highlights for  dimension. This cut has been showing up everywhere recently! It feels so great, is super low maintenance and I think it gives me a fun new look to play with this summer.

Nothing gets me more excited than cute baked goods. While scouring Pinterest, I stumbled across a recipe for these cute Easter Egg Cake Pops and I had to try them out. Aside from forming the batter into the shape of an egg, these cuties follow the standard instructions for regular cake pops. It’s super fun to decorate them with tons of spring colour sprinkles to make unique patterns. Be warned these cuties took a lot of time and I nearly threw in the towel so pack your patience when trying them out!

dsc02334Finally a quick “What I wore” for a family Easter dinner. I paired this Wilfred tank with black leggings and Michael Kors flats.

And there you have it! Some of my spring and Easter Inspirations. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and are getting your spring on! Let me know some of your inspirations.

Product Feature – Clinique Chubby Stick Contour

It’s no surprise that sculpting and contouring has taken the world by storm.  I myself am amateur at best in my contouring game so I’ll welcome any product to help improve skills. If only we could all achieve those Kim K sculpted cheekbones. I currently only own powder products, but I was interested in finding a cream product. Behold, my prayers were answered as Clinique recently came out with their Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour.

IMG_0197

This product only comes in one shade, which initially worried me as I felt it would be too close to my natural skin colour, but thankfully it was dark enough. Hopefully Clinique will introduce a wider range of shades for us. Application is very smooth, super easy to blend, and very buildable. I find the finish much more natural than a powder product. Rather than sitting on top of your makeup, the creamy formula blends and sinks into your skin and foundation. I’ve also noticed a bit of shimmer in the product prior to blending it in which adds a bit of brightness and built-in highlight.

Let’s talk about the packaging, aka the way to any beauty lover’s heart. I love the chubby stick and its compact nature. Super easy to pop in a makeup bag rather than a bulky palette. I use the almighty beauty blender to work the product into the skin; eliminating the need to carry around a brush. Also I love the chubby stick as it allows you to be precise and target the exact hollows of you cheekbones to get the sculpted look.

IMG_0213

I did find however that the lasting power with this product wasn’t great as the colour did fade throughout the day. Now I wouldn’t say my skin type is oily, but this could be an issue for some. Perhaps my skin is super dry and is trying to absorb every bit of moisture? Perhaps I’m not used to wearing cream products? This definitely isn’t a negative for the product. Just something I have to be aware of in my own use. I tried setting it with the Nars Contour Blush in Gienah the next day and it lasted much longer.

In addition to being affordable, I would give this a big thumbs up. Let me know some of your contouring secrets!

Until next time,
