Summertime is in full swing and I’ve started tackling my summer reading list! Based on the buzz, I had to give priority to John Green’s Paper Towns, which I featured in my What’s in My Beach Bag post. You see I’m a ‘read the book before seeing the movie’ type of gal so I had to finish before the release date.
Like all of John Green’s books, Paper Towns was a page-turner. Growing up in a small town myself, it’s easy to understand why Margo believed there is much more to the world and desperately wanted to get out. I still dream of getting out. I read this book at the most opportune time. As I am making career decisions and dreaming towards the future, it is easy to get caught up in the planning. I am a perfectionist. This book reminded me that sometimes planning is more fun, and its ok if things don’t turn out exactly as you expected because the memory is in the adventure. One of my favourite quotes from the book:
“Nothing ever happens like you imagine it will…But then again, if you don’t imagine, nothing ever happens at all. Imaging isn’t perfect”
UK beauty blogger Essie Button, a fellow Canadian and personal favourite of mine, featured this book in her Button’s Bookshelf series on her YouTube Channel. She hits all the key points and sums up my feelings to the book exactly. Take a look at her video below!
If you haven’t read Paper Towns yet, I suggest you get your hands on a copy. I know I can’t wait to see the movie. What books are on your summer reading list?
Until next time,
If I’m ever having a junk food craving, it’s usually for something salty. Don’t get me wrong sweet treats are delicious, but in my opinion nothing beats a good bag of chips. My favourite? It’s a tie between ketchup chips (a true Canadian classic) and Dorito’s Sweet Chilli Heat. Though I’d love to eat a whole bag of chips myself, I quite simply can’t undo all the hard work in the gym. Today’s snack comes from a foodie blog called My San Francisco Kitchen with yummy baked Zucchini chips.
This recipe was super easy to whip up. Prep time is about 10 minutes with about an hour to bake. All you do is slice your zucchini and toss in olive oil with spices! The recipe suggests using a mandolin slicer to get the zucchini nice and thin, but since I didn’t have one I just used a tiny but sharp knife, which worked fine. My two small zucchini yielded a small amount of chips. If you are looking to make a big batch, make sure to stock up on the green guys.
As for the taste – YUMMY! I loved these. The paprika really added a great spicy kick, which is right up my alley. I thought my chips were getting a bit burnt so I hastily took them out at the 1-hour mark. Unfortunately they were not crispy enough so I think they would have been fine cooking for the extra half hour. Over all these were a great snack and a fun way to add in an extra veggie to your daily intake.

Until next time,
There is no question that beach vacations are super fun and relaxing. Soaking up the warm sun all day. The natural sea salt water curls. The mid day Piña Colada. After spending most of the day in a soggy bikini and sticky from sunscreen, I like to dress up for dinner and night-time entertainment (and more Piña Coladas). Here are a few outfit of the night pictures from the week.
Now you are probably wondering about my beauty and hair routine. I didn’t pack any of my hot tools for the week, so my hair care was simple. My hair was just washed and air-dried, and I added a spritz of Living Proof Instant Texture Mist (Oh Sephora samples, how I Love you). This texture mist was great for adding extra wave and body. For beauty I tried to keep it to the basics, as gross but true, the evening humidity tended to sweat it off.
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser, Nars Creamy Concealer, Nars Sheer Glow Foundation, Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer, Naked Basics Pallette (for Brows and Eyeshadow), Anastasia Brow Wiz, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush, Clinique Chubby Stick Contour, Nars Contour Blush, Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara, MAC Lipstick in Plumful.

Until next time,
Recently, I was lucky enough to take a relaxing vacation to Cuba with my lovely boyfriend. Since a lot goes on during the travel process, I thought I would do a travel series to help any jet setting readers!
Today we tackle the most daunting yet exciting part of the vacation – the flight. I personally love flying, my boyfriend on the other hand..not so much! The rush of speed from taking off makes me want to reach my destination quicker. But once you’ve been in the air for a while, things can get tough. So I decided to share some of my in flight essentials!
Long flights can be draining, so entertainment is key. I always bring my Ipad stocked with music and TV shows – I was late on the Sons of Anarchy bandwagon but now I’m hooked! I always pack at least two books for a vacation and John Green’s Paper Towns has been on my list for a while. Stay tuned for a book review coming soon!
I like to dress in layers when traveling, that way I’m prepared for anything. This sweater was featured in my summer clothing haul and kept me super cozy and warm. Most of my important travel documents are organized in a travel wallet, which I did not feature, but my passport and wallet are kept handy. Other necessities include sunglasses, gum, tissues, lip balm and hand sanitizer (let’s be real airports can be yucky). As for beauty, I tend to go bare face when traveling. The dry air stirs up trouble with my skin so its best to not clog pores with make-up.
Be sure to check back for the next travel related blog post! Let me know some of your carry-on essentials!
Until next time
Pizza is everywhere these days, I can’t scroll through Instagram without seeing a cheesy slice. I love pizza as much as the next person, but I’m also trying to stay fit and eat healthy. This makes it tricky to stay away from all the deliciously yummy but not so healthy food. In my quest to find new dinner options, I came across a recipe from the blog The Weary Chef for a delicious and healthy pizza alternative. She called them Quinoa Meatball Pizza Cups.
These little pockets were super fast and easy to make. I paired these with a salad and it was the perfect dinner. My oven got a bit hot and so they came out a bit toasty, but I will take them out sooner next time. I also used a mixture of cheddar and mozzarella cheese making the top look darker.
As for the taste – I loved them! The baked quinoa acted like a crust and tasted just like a pizza! As a personal preference, I would add a bit more sauce as well as some chilli flakes next time. I like my food with a spicy kick!
Even though my blog is predominately about beauty, my ultimate goal is for it to be a lifestyle blog. Majority of my posts will still be about makeup and beauty, however I am going to incorporate some other content to mix it up. Let me know what you think!
Be sure to try out this recipe and let me know some of your dinner favourites!
