Product Feature- Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette

You’re making me blush. Fine this palette is making me blush. Have you ever seen anything so beautiful?! I know by now the Hourglass ambient lighting blush palette is old news and but I thought I would still write about it. As soon as I saw this gem, I had this sudden, overwhelming need to give this trio a home! I rarely give the newest blush in stores a second glance, but this time I could not seem to tear my eyes away.

Packaged in a sleek and slim gold case, this palette comes with three shades include Mood Exposure, Luminous flush and incandescent Electra (an exclusive shade to the palette). All three shades provide the prettiest glow and colour to the face with the added bonus of the infamous hourglass highlight from the shimmers in each blush. This girl has yet to purchase the ambient lighting highlight pallet – got to keep the spending in check sometimes.

While this palette is on the pricier end, I definitely think it is worth it. Especially if you are not a blush fanatic like I am, it’s great to have one go to set that will never let you down. The pigmentation is superb and is very buildable, allowing for both subtle romantic looks to some intense cheek colour. The shades are long-lasting without the need to reapply throughout the day.

All three shades are gorgeous but my personal favourite of the palette is Mood Exposure. As I had never worn let alone even swatched a colour like this before, I was initially hesitant towards this colour due to its purple hues. I found it looked most natural on my skin and really popped whenever I wore a colour that complimented it.  Just goes to show you can’t judge a blush by its colour.

After the success of this blush find, perhaps I should expand my horizon! What are some of your favourite blushes?

Until next time

Product Feature – Clinique Chubby Stick Contour

It’s no surprise that sculpting and contouring has taken the world by storm.  I myself am amateur at best in my contouring game so I’ll welcome any product to help improve skills. If only we could all achieve those Kim K sculpted cheekbones. I currently only own powder products, but I was interested in finding a cream product. Behold, my prayers were answered as Clinique recently came out with their Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour.

This product only comes in one shade, which initially worried me as I felt it would be too close to my natural skin colour, but thankfully it was dark enough. Hopefully Clinique will introduce a wider range of shades for us. Application is very smooth, super easy to blend, and very buildable. I find the finish much more natural than a powder product. Rather than sitting on top of your makeup, the creamy formula blends and sinks into your skin and foundation. I’ve also noticed a bit of shimmer in the product prior to blending it in which adds a bit of brightness and built-in highlight.

Let’s talk about the packaging, aka the way to any beauty lover’s heart. I love the chubby stick and its compact nature. Super easy to pop in a makeup bag rather than a bulky palette. I use the almighty beauty blender to work the product into the skin; eliminating the need to carry around a brush. Also I love the chubby stick as it allows you to be precise and target the exact hollows of you cheekbones to get the sculpted look.

I did find however that the lasting power with this product wasn’t great as the colour did fade throughout the day. Now I wouldn’t say my skin type is oily, but this could be an issue for some. Perhaps my skin is super dry and is trying to absorb every bit of moisture? Perhaps I’m not used to wearing cream products? This definitely isn’t a negative for the product. Just something I have to be aware of in my own use. I tried setting it with the Nars Contour Blush in Gienah the next day and it lasted much longer.

In addition to being affordable, I would give this a big thumbs up. Let me know some of your contouring secrets!

The Best Red Lipstick.. for your eyes?!

When I settle into my morning at work, I’m typically perusing my favourite beauty blogs and dreaming about my future job in the beauty industry. Usually brainstorming content ideas for the blog, I’m always looking for interesting articles to write about. One particular morning I came across a video I just had to feature.

It was a video from a beauty blogger named Deepica Muylata who revealed the most interesting way to combat those pesky under eye circles. Her secret? Using a red or orange lipstick. The idea behind it is the red lipstick cancels out any blue tones under your eyes. Applied underneath your regular face makeup routine, your eyes will look less dark and much brighter.

Now I’m not usually one for gimmicky beauty tricks. I like to keep things simple and natural. But, in this one instance I had to try it out. The dark circles under my eyes have to go. The bane of my existence, under eye circles are the one part of my face I’ve been trying to perfect for years. So out I went on a cold and rainy evening to target and purchased the Maybelline Colour sensational in Rose Rush (735). Hesitant, I followed Deepica’s tutorial and started to play around with the colour.

I was amazed that the red, which is so strikingly bright and out of place on my face, could not be seen underneath my concealer.  As for the actual brightening effect? Initially I couldn’t tell if my eyes were playing tricks on me as they wanted to see an improvement. The closer I looked, I did notice that the eye with the lip stick seemed a little brighter. The darkest areas of my eye which I usually struggle with had improved subtly and were less noticeable.  It was not a huge difference to my regular under eye routine but none the less it did work. I personally wouldn’t make this a step in my every day routine, but might pull this trick out of the bag on a big night out.

Can you tell the difference? Here’s a side by side comparison with the lipstick under my left eye only.

And the award goes to…

I’m the girl who loves the Oscars. Hollywood’s biggest night they call it. The movies, the red carpet glam, the opening monologue…I love it all.

Every year, I do my best to try to see as many of the best picture nominations as I can. This year I made it to 4 out of 8; The Theory of Everything, Imitation Game, American Sniper, and The Grand Budapest Hotel. My favourite you ask? The Theory of Everything. Not only was this a touching story of the life of scientist Steven Hawking, but the acting by leading man Eddie Redmayne was superb! He was also my stand out pick for the guys on the red carpet this season.

But alas as this is a beauty blog and I am a beauty addict, my truly favourite part of the evening are the red carpet looks. Here are some of my favourite gowns from last night’s awards.

Rosamund Pike: Can we all agree how amazing Gone Girl was? I’ve always wondered if red gowns on red carpets are too much. This one however is stunning. The rosettes and slit up the front give it a standout and modern edge. I also love the cinching at the waist that shows off the amazing fit on her figure. I don’t think I’ve had any complaints towards the looks Rosamund Pike has worn this season.

Jamie Chung: I will admit, I don’t know who you are or what you acted in but the dress was on point. I spotted this dress from a bloggers tweet and I fell in love. I’m a sucker for a sheer nude ball gown dress with a sparkly overlay. Navy is also one of my favourite colours to see on the red carpet so this one gets five stars in my books.

Jennifer Lopez: JLo I don’t know why you were at the Oscars but you killed it.  I told you I loved the sheer nude ball gown with a sparkly overlay. From head to toe this consistency of the nude colour is amazing.  I love the volume and plunging neckline on this dress as well. If I had to pick one winner for the night in the dress category, it would be this one. This is definitely not a Jenny from the block look.

Anna Kendrick: This is another girl who always pulls knock out looks. The dress is standout with the peachy colour, the shape and the blingy neckline that draws you to the cute cut out. I want this dress. But I think what I love most about Anna Kendrick here is her make-up. It complements her look perfectly without being overpowering. Definitely a makeup look I want to recreate this spring.

There were so many other amazing dresses and looks but these were by far my favourite. Which dresses were your favourites? I wish I could get all dolled up for a red carpet event and wear one of these dresses. *sigh. A girl can dream I guess!

Until next time,
